In our forthcoming April stitch club, Saturday 20th April, Judith will be showing us how to make a serviette box or gift box, like the ones below.

You will create a pattern whatever size you want, so it could be a small gift box.  Below are the requirements to make a 7" box to fit serviettes:

  • 4 sides 7" x 3" or 4" high
Lid

Fabric - firm weave - furnishing or cotton or outside
              cotton for the lining inside.
Enough fabric to cover box, sides, lid and sides - 1/2" metre (this should be enough to make 2).  As long as you have a piece 8" x 36" for the sides of the box and lid; you could use remnants.

A piece of interlining 8" x 36" for the sides of the box and lid.
Thin wadding enough to cover the outside of the card for the box, lid and sides.
Pirtt stick glue or any glue that dries quickly to attach wadding and interlining to the card.
Double sided tape.
Matching thread for the main outside fabric
Thread for using to hold fabric on card.
Sewing needles.

Our Embroidered Photos

A good day was had by all.  We worked on two photos, one for practice to see if the stitches worked, and then the actual photo.  The first shot is of a practice piece and the rest are the actual work.  Note, one of our members did collage instead of stitches.

Thanks to Kathy for a most enjoyable day.

February 2024 Stitch Club - Embroidery on Photos

UPDATE:

Kathy has suggested that you print your photos onto white card, rather than photo paper.  It's much easier to work on and it won't need backing for stability.

Our next stitch club will be on Saturday 17th February, at the Thomas Garett  Buildings, Heighington, starting at 10:00 am and going through until 3:00 pm.

Kathy will be showing us how to embroider on photographs.

Requirements List

  • Black and white photos
  • Embroidery threads
  • Basic sewing kit
  • Awl / hat pin / darning needle to pre-prick out holes for embroidery
  • Self-healing cutting mat
If you don't have all the items, Don't go out and buy it, we can share between us.

Kathy will bring a supply of black and white photos if you don't have any, and will also bring a supply of card to back the photos and add stability.

If you are unable to print off your photos, please email them to: sojourner@virginmedia.com and Kathy will print them off for you.

Below are a couple of examples that Kathy has done, and some further examples from Pinterest:

Cost £5 for members, £10 for non-members.  Please bring a packed lunch.  Tea / coffee / biscuits will be provided.

Please let Judith know if you are planning to attend (judithsnaith51@gmail.com), so we have an idea of numbers.

We look forward to seeing you there.
